Level 2 MUSIC - The Basics of USBands Competitive Marching Band Adjudication


This level introduces the USBands Competitive Marching Band Adjudication System and serves as the foundation for on-going skill development in Level 3. 

Participants in this course will:

  • Develop a fundamental understanding of the philosophy and areas of emphasis for this system, the role, ethics, and professional expectations of USBands adjudicators, and the components of a USBands score and how to give one. 
  • Practice the processes of observation and recognition, making comparisons, ranking, and scoring.
  • Be introduced to the USBands captions, sub-captions, and class expectations. 

The course consists of 4 units, followed by a final exam:

  • Unit 1: THE PHILOSOPHY AND AREAS OF EMPHASIS FOR USBANDS ADJUDICATION
  • Unit 2: THE ROLE AND PROCESSES OF THE USBANDS ADJUDICATOR—PROFESSIONALISM, ETHICS, AND BOUNDARIES
  • Unit 3: THE BASICS OF A USBANDS SCORE AND HOW TO GIVE ONE 
  • Unit 4: INTRODUCTION TO THE ADJUDICATION SYSTEM AND ESSENTIAL CLASS EXPECTATIONS
